Lost Strategy Tank Game
Happy New Years Eve! Over the holidays I have been reminiscing certain aspects of my childhood. Especially old mobile games I have played as a kid and how to gain access to them again in 2025 to relive some childhood memories, you cannot deny that modern mobile games have lowered in quality these days to some in-app payment slop. Sure, in-app payments existed long ago, but the ads weren’t as intrusive, nor it was extremely pay to win.
Through a Samsung Galaxy S3 I bought in 2019, I was able to play your usual classics such as Fruit Ninja, Hungry Shark and Temple Run. But also some games that were core towards my childhood such as Snoopy’s Street Fair or Nightclub Story which cannot be downloaded or played properly anymore.
However, something reminded me of a game I vaguely remember that I spent a decent time playing… Though my memory is fuzzy, I will try to give my most accurate description.
Game Description
It wasn’t the highest quality but modest for its time. I remember playing this on an iPhone 4 and my Motorola Xoom. This would place the game around 2010-2013 (early 2010’s). So it was both accessible on both iOS and Android.
After getting past the main screen which had 4 buttons (possibly a campaign, scores, settings and quit) that are coloured grey with italic impact text that was aligned to the right and the background was a clear blue sky with an open green field. The art style was photorealistic and cartoonish (kind of like Clash Royale), not exactly 3d but it and there was no ability to zoom in. It was 2d.
The level design was quite unique. I remember it was a top down view, some levels were different but the two I remember grassy plain background and a desert level. Each level had a certain amount of bases which would be a grey circle, I would remember there would be on average 7-9 on each level.
The player would be the blue team (which the base would be a light blue circle) and the enemy which was controlled by AI would be the red team (red circle).
Based will have a number that denote its power level, this would span from 50-1000s. The objective was to take over the map and to kill the enemy team. These bases could be upgraded by sending more tanks to a certain tile.
Some bases who are better protected would turn into a pentagon or hexagon. You will win if you take over all the red bases.
Research
I tried to do my own research by using ChatGPT (obviously). It provided some suggestions such as Hills of Steel, Pocket Tanks, Tank Super Wars, Warbits, Land Air Sea Warfare, Tactile Wars, RedSun RTS, Tiny Troopers, Desert War 3D but it was none of those things. However, ChatGPT provided me with a reddit post on r/tipofmyjoystick with reddit user PhilosopherParking28 making a post in 2023 referring to a similar or the exact game, so this could be a lead?
If I have more findings, I will post more updates coming forward.
